we are not asking for “special treatment”, we want to be seen as humans. Not a fashion statement, a mascot, or a mythical people from your favorite books. Headdresses are sacred and take a long time to earn, if you did not earn it than you have no right to wear it.

Women are not supposed to wear headdresses, because its taboo. And wearing one does not make you cute or macho, it makes you look very racist.

So women shouldn’t wear headdresses? What the fuck? Why should I respect misogynist or chauvinist aspects of any culture? I don’t respect misogynist/chauvinist aspects of my own culture and I’m not going to respect such aspects of any other culture, either, no matter how “sacred” those aspects are to someone else.

I think when people have a good self-esteem they don’t freak out about other people “stealing” their culture. Instead, they are happy that their culture can bring joy to someone else’s life. People with a healthy dose of self-esteem don’t think they “own” ideas just because their great-great-great-grandparents were the ones to come up with them.

In my culture, people exchange and develop ideas. When someone has a good idea, another person can take that idea and turn it into something completely new - at least ideally (of course we have patent laws etc). That’s how creativity works. If I think that headdresses look cool, I can work them into something even cooler, combining them with other ideas, some of which may be my own. I don’t have to swallow the whole package of ideas that is supposed to come with the headdress, such as Native American religions or their values. Exchanging, combining, being creative - this is how things and ideas can evolve into the best that they can be.

Honestly, I’m not buying this bullshit about headdresses worn by white people being “racists” no matter how sacred they are to someone. It’s not racist or ignorant, it’s fun and creative. It’s the way that a creative, intelligent, open-minded and sophisticated culture works.

And I think that it’s racist or at least very closed-minded to think that someone can’t wear a headdress or do something just because they’re not a part of the right culture. I once read someone say that white people shouldn’t do yoga, that it’s somehow disrespectful! And this person was being serious. How stupid and racist can one get?

PS. I think that white chicks wearing headdresses look amazing.
